The Email Rules

What our mailing list is about: This is a list server intended to send messages directly relating to our mission statement and limitations. Other messages may be sent, but it is polite to make clear in the subject line that they are not directly related to some sort of direct action regarding the personal freedom of consenting adults. We are the steering committee for the FAC, and we follow the voting rules outlined at our voting rules page. By adopting a standard nomenclature to designate various content forms we can allow filters to be applied by the recipient to allow (for example) a glum person to reject messages with a subject matter of "humor." Most of the mail programs allow for these actions now. Hence, these subject header prefaces are encouraged: (they are in caps, but most filters will work either way) MOTION: (a motion to be seconded and approved) FYI: (for your information--not a suggestion we should discuss the group taking a coördinated action) HUMOR: (nuff said?) ADMIN: (internal workings of the list) ACTION: (go do something, call or send a letter to . . .) MEETING: (time and date info of a true physical meeting we will have) MEDIA: (something on the tube or the radio you might watch) FLAME: (it keeps going, and going, and going, . . . ) Please suggest more (or suggest to change or delete these) Most of us would rather not bear the discussion of disciplinary procedures. The link below will email a subset of the list for whomever would want to participate in that discussion separately from the list. From that point, one on the sublist could just hit "reply-all." Those who would want to be in the front line in such a discussion send email they will be added to the sublist. We would be basically a "Rules Committee" for our group, membership voluntary. This way, we don't have burden the list as a whole with our disciplinary affairs with until there is a vote to be taken. Email the Rules Committee
