• Top-level user and internal support for a five thousand-user hospital/insurance company network.
• Created master images for over 3,000 PCs using Symantec's Ghost product, offering Win95/NT/2K/XP for up to fifteen hardware platforms.
• Designed above images to accept Novell ZENworks automated installations and management.
• Trained technicians to image PCs and perform automated installations.
• Built SuSE Linux/Apache/MySQL server to facilitate automation of software installation.
• Wrote Perl/DBI scripts (and accompanying DOS batch files) for SuSE Linux server with a MySQL database, which restored captured configuration information on command that the ZENworks server missed.
• Wrote Perl CGI scripts for SuSE Linux server that generated MS-Excel formatted reports for supervisors.
• Performed top level troubleshooting of issues not resolved by Field Service Technicians, Network Engineers, Network Administrators, and Systems Analysts.
• Met with vendors to discuss specifications on upcoming projects.
• Evaluated incoming products for suitability and security.

• Set up initial Windows 2000 deployment.
• Built and administered initial NT Domain and MS SQL servers.

• Supported, administered and programmed Expert Advisor 2.0 and 3.0 problem tracking software using the artificial intelligence language KML (Knowledge Manipulation Language).
• Set up Access ODBC database queries into the Sybase SQL server.
• Assisted in administration of the Sybase SQL server as it related to tracking software and user accounts.
• Created automatic paging software to contact technicians in the field.
• Took calls from customers with problems and had the highest percentage of calls closed over the phone.
• Created email and network accounts, printer queues, and network shares.

Infinity Group—Albuquerque, New Mexico	April 1994—April 1995
LAN Administrator/Software Engineer

• User and technical support for a fifty-user LANtastic network with three servers.
• Built or re-built most network cabling (BNC), installed repeaters, and refined server parameters for more efficient operation.
• Installed auditing software to ensure legality.
• Developed standardized installation for software on new machines.
• Increased network security by requiring passwords on all accounts.
• Built prototype for remote operations using PC-Anywhere.
• Installed and configured FAX/modems for various purposes.

Software Engineer	General (DI3270 Terminal Emulator)

• Updated DI3270's TSR module to allow for screen saving in all graphics modes.
• Verified 3270 gateway to host and client to gateway connection on multiple builds and boards.
• Implemented Polymake Version Control 5.x (but retained 4.x make)
• Took tech support calls and researched the problems reported.
• Set up Novell 4.0 network for testing purposes.
• Assisted in general network operations.
• Fixed broken and misconfigured computers.
• Installed OS/2 systems with NetWare Requester for testing.
• Diagnosed network problems with traces from packet sniffer.

Software Engineer

LU1 SCS printer driver project

• Wrote parser and supplemental routines for translation of LU1 SCS printer control codes to end-user printer capabilities using Microsoft C++ 7.0 compiler and MASM.
• Brought the current LU1 routines up to specs and integrated the changes with the LU3 printer routines.
• Wrote testing routines, compiled under Lattice C 3, and the configuration utility was updated using Lattice C 6.
• Managed version control and build with Polymake Make and Polymake VCS.

Software Engineer

MS-Access Contact Relationship Managment Database project

• Verified specifications through careful querying of staff regarding their vision of completed product and comparison with current data.
• Developed conversion, deployment, and testing plan for database project.
• Converted Open Access database to Microsoft Access.
• Created specialized DLLs for query requirements (with MS C++), which were accessed with Access BASIC from within the database.

Origin Systems—Austin, Texas	March 1991—February 1993
Software Engineer	Wing Commander II

• Wrote utilities that permitted conversion of graphic images to Origin internal graphic format (a variant of the GIF graphics file format),
• Wrote utilities for inspecting, editing, and creating graphic images in that format.
• Wrote utilities for sound effects, music, and speech.
• All coding used Borland's C, C++, and Assembler products, Polymake's Make for builds, and Polymake's VCS for version control.

 

Software Engineer

Wing Commander I

• Converted the 16-bit 8086-based Wing Commander I to run on the 32-bit protected mode Japanese 80386 based FM-Towns using Phar-Lap's DOS Extender and Watcom C's protected mode compiler.
• Created interrupt driven three-tiered memory-management routines to use the internal CD-ROM as virtual memory, while still permitting it to be used for 16 bit stereo music;
• Created and implemented code to play PCM sound effects;
• Converted and tested MIDI routines,
• Wrote Lempel-Ziv-Welch (zip) data compression routines for graphics packets.
• Performed general conversion of C and Assembler routines to 32-bit model.
• Created AWK scripts to facilitate the extraction of English text from code for translation into Japanese and complimentary AWK scripts that took the translated Japanese and inserted it back into the English code.
• Debugged Japanese OS and compensated for an error in their BIOS, which made the PCM sound chip hiccup.

• Developed games for a multi-user BBS system (MCD-8) in Austin, Texas to allow logged in users to play interactively with each other over dial-up connections using the VT-100/ANSI terminal control set.
